Grade 1 through Grade 6

Grades 1 through Grade 6 at World Elementary offer a low student to teacher ratio with a maximum class size of 18 students. Classes are conducted five days a week from 8:30am - 3:00pm with the option to extend the day with before and after school care (Big Kids City). Based on the local Board of Education guideline, our curriculum has been expanded and enriched to offer your child more choices. Our goals are to foster physical, social, emotional, cognitive, language, math and creative development - all while enjoying school.

The elementary curriculum is designed with the knowledge that children in grades one through six are forming their own set of values and must have the time and materials for imaginative freedom. The program is an in-depth, hands-on experience that addresses the individualized learning styles and intelligence levels of each child. Our children are accepted for who they are, and are encouraged to blossom at their own rate. Classes promote the joy of learning, and are opportunities for our children to learn control over their lives and encouraging the development of their sense of self. Our comprehensive curriculum emphasizes language arts and math while our specialized enrichment programs in Music, Art, Physical Education, World Languages and Technology help make World Elementary a unique school.

Our enrichment programs are an important feature of a World Elementary education. Specialists in the following disciplines meet with the students on a weekly basis:

World Language
In French class at World Elementary, students are exposed to another culture, another language and another window to view the world in which they live. Students begin their French voyage in the early grades through conversational French while exploring French geography, culture and art through hands-on activities music, games, crafts and dramatic expression.

In the upper elementary grades, students add French grammar and written expression to their repertoire. Our 4th, 5th and 6th graders also correspond with student pen pals in France. All of our students share their educational accomplishments during the year with others through celebrations including Gustave Eiffel's birthday celebration, a Mardi Gras parade, imaginary trips to France, a fashion show, plays and musical productions and Le Cercle Francais (French Honor Society)

Technology
Students from our Pre-school 4 program and older attend computer class for 45 minutes per week. In addition, there are three computers in each class in Grades 1 through 6 that students may use daily. The Technology program's focus is to use technology to enhance, enrich, and augment classroom learning. Enhanced experiences utilizing the most current technologies are presented through an elective course for students in Grades 5 and 6.  Each grade level program is tailored from year to year to benefit the students' learning styles and development while targeting the topics being studied. In addition 4th, 5th and 6th graders cover specific computer skills such as typing, word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.

Music and Chorus
Singing, dancing, storytelling, acting, creative expression, and rhythm exercises are some of the curriculum components engaging Kindergarten through Grade Six students on a regular basis. In addition, the music program incorporates the progressive series Share the Music from McGraw Hill. This series supplements the curriculum with concepts including music theory, history, social and cultural commonalties and diversities, various instrumentation and familiarity with acclaimed performers.

Physical Education
Our Physical Education Program is designed to increase our students' awareness of the importance and benefits of physical activity while making physical activity enjoyable. By introducing various sports in a non-competitive atmosphere, we can assist our children in developing their own athletic interests and skills. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, cooperation, effort and good sportsmanship. Some activities during the year include Soccer, Basketball, Floor Hockey, Team-building challenges, Aerobic Exercise and Dance. Extra curricular activities include our Track Team, Aerobic KickBoxing classes, Scouting, Dance classes, Cheerleading, Ice-Skating, Sledding and Karate.

Art
Our Arts Program provides students with the opportunity to express themselves visually. Our program explores the elements of art including shape, form, line, space, color, value and texture. Through the year, using different media, students develop their critical thinking skills including decision making, problem solving, creative and evaluation skills. Art production skills are developed using a variety of two and three-dimensional medial. When applicable, art history knowledge and concepts from other disciplines are also incorporated into lessons.
